Connect, Discover and Grow with Equine Presence

Equine Presence is a psychology practice focused on Equine-Facilitated Psychotherapy (EFP).

After rigorous training and research, Dr. Tula Paul, Registered Psychologist (AB), founded Equine Presence to bridge evidence-informed practice into equine-facilitated services and horse-human interactions.

Whether through psychotherapy, education, consultation, or community, we create opportunities to slow down, listen differently, and explore new ways of relating to ourselves, one another, horses and the world around us.

A calm and confidential environment where horses and humans are invited to work together in meaningful ways.

Why horses?

Because some things can only be understood through relationship.

Relationship creates possibilities that cannot be achieved through conversation, technique, or insight alone.

PSYCHOLOGY SERVICES

Sometimes talking about our experiences is not enough.

Because talking about and experiencing are different things.

Equine-Facilitated Psychotherapy (EFP) combines psychotherapy with the relational and emotional responsiveness of horses, creating opportunities to explore patterns, emotions, and relationships in real time.

For some individuals—especially those who feel stuck, disconnected, overwhelmed, or frustrated with traditional talk therapy—EFP can offer a different pathway toward insight, awareness, and change.

Experience EFP with Dr. Tula Paul, Registered Psychologist (AB), and her equine co-facilitators in the quiet beauty of Lake Isle, Alberta.

A PSYCHOLOGIST WHO UNDERSTANDS HORSE PEOPLE

I feel like my mind is getting in the way of my riding.
I am trying everything, but something still feels missing.
I am giving everything to everyone else and have little left for myself.
I am grieving the loss of a horse, a dream, or a part of my identity.
I care deeply about horse welfare and sometimes feel alone in those conversations.

Being an equestrian is about far more than riding.

We are not just people who love horses.

Horses become woven into how we understand ourselves. For many of us, they become part of who we are, shaping our relationships, values, goals, and sense of belonging.

When challenges arise, they often affect far more than our time in the saddle.

Confidence, burnout, grief, identity, welfare concerns, partnership, and purpose are not simply equestrian issues. They are human experiences that happen to unfold in the context of loving horses.

COMMUNITY OF PRACTICE

Some questions are too important to explore alone.

Equine Presence Community of Practice brings together people from diverse backgrounds who share an interest in relationship, wellbeing, horses, and human flourishing.

The questions that shape us are rarely confined to a single domain.

Together, we explore questions that rarely fit neatly within a single discipline. Through dialogue, reflection, education, and shared inquiry, we create opportunities to learn from one another while remaining open to complexity, difference, and new perspectives.

Grounded in curiosity, humility, compassion, and integrity, Community of Practice is not about having the answers. It is about creating a place where meaningful questions can be explored together.

A Community of Practice is a space to let a good question destabilize a cherished idea and create enough coherence to take the next step.

Horses are not our healers. They are our partners in healing.
